The Times-Tribune - Letters to the Editor - Santorum Called to Task for Telling a Humdinger (Proof voters are smarter than Rick Thinks)

The Times-Tribune - News - 07/04/2005 - Letters to the Editor: "Editor: It is offensive to those of us who try to inform our thinking with facts when we are told by our elected officials information that is not substantiated and is intended to rally support for a policy or bill.

When we are told by Sen. Rick Santorum that 30,000 jobs will be created for Pennsylvania by drilling for oil in the Alaskan wilderness, the citizens have the right to know how and on what information this claim is based. When we are told that this drilling will decrease our dependence on foreign oil, we have the right to ask how since there is no guarantee that this oil will even be sold to Americans.

Let's make it clear that employment uncertainty and high prices at the pump are issues that we want addressed, but not by empty promises, statistics that prey on the desire of Pennsylvanians for real jobs, or by misguided energy policy.

LEAH DOBROWOLSKI
Greentown, Pike County"
